Events Team Intern

Roles and Responsibilities
The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project is looking for 2-5 summer interns to assist staff with all of the logistical preparation for and coordination of four week-long summer institutes. The institutes take place from late June through the second week in August. Each one is attended by 800-1,200 participants from all over the world.

We have flexible part-time and full-time internships available. Tentative timeframes would be Mid-May through the end of July as well as Early June through Mid-August with the possibility of extended work. Each internship is designed to support one or two professional staff members during our July and August Institutes on the Teaching of Reading and Writing. The professional staff members overseeing these conferences are responsible for major aspects of event planning including, but not limited to: writing schedules of workshops and small/large group meetings, assigning rooms, handling materials, managing registration and applications and coordinating any needs for faculty teaching at the institutes.

The institutes involve a variety of micro- and macro- tasks. Ideal candidates for the events internships will be outgoing, self-motivated team players with a pension for problem solving on the spot, a sharp attention to detail, a can-do attitude, and a winsome personality. Job duties include registering and directing institute participants, scheduling, administrative and office tasks, data entry, setting up and running book sales, anticipating and meeting needs of presenting faculty, staff and participants, as well as any number of unanticipated, creative errands.

Interns will be expected to work four or five days (up to 40 hours) a week, depending on the events of a given day. There will be some early mornings and long days, as well as weekends. Each day is different and the work is often fast paced, with a fair amount of physical activity. Vacation time will be permitted but please note our conference dates are June 24th-28th, July 1st-6th, August 5th-9th and August 12th-16th. Interns must be available during both the week prior to and the week of each conference. This is a paid internship opportunity, however it is also possible to have interns be self-funded by their undergraduate institution, whether through a grant, scholarship, or college credit.

Editorial Intern

Roles and Responsibilities
The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) is looking for one summer intern to assist the editorial/writing team with the preparation of written documents generated for use throughout our four weeklong summer institutes (conferences). The institutes take place from late June through the second week in August. Each one is attended by 800-1,200 participants from all over the world.

The editorial intern will support the Project writers in editing, formatting, collating and organizing written materials including institute schedules, instructional handout packets, and Reading and Writing Curricular Plans (grades K-8). During the days leading up to each institute, and during the institutes themselves, the editorial intern's duties will shift. He or she will join the rest of the interns to help collate, set up and distribute materials, check on rooms, assist with registration and book sales, direct participants and field their inquiries, update data bases and run errands as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a strong command of the English language and of grammar conventions, a sharp attention to detail, the ability to work quickly and efficiently under tight deadlines, a strong work ethic, and a terrific sense of humor. An interest in the field of education is a bonus, but not required. English majors preferred.

Please note: this is a full-time internship from Mid-May through Mid-August, with the possibility of extended work.

Media Technician Intern

TCRWP is looking for one-two summer interns to assist the Media Tech Specialist with AV & technology needs during our summer institutes. The institutes take place from late June through the second week in August. Each one is attended by 800-1,200 participants from all over the world.

For each of these conferences we require a multitude of AV/Tech and general Media support. The intern will help professional staff provide support in a variety of technological needs – specifically during the days/weeks of the conference. You will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of all media equipment in our inventory and that of the college (consoles, carts, doc cams, console & laptop PCs & Macs, LCD projectors, digital cameras, microphones, screens, floor/table microphone stands, cables/connectors, mixers, etc.). Beyond the conference, you will assist our Media Tech Specialist with the technology in the office and potentially web development.
