Trinity Episcopal School seeks applications for a full-time lower school (K-4th grade) division literacy specialist for the 2012-2013 school year.


Required Qualifications
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited school, excellent character, strong verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in a highly collaborative and rigorous environment. Candidates must have a strong knowledge of reading and writing workshop, specifically in line with the philosophies of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (“TCRWP”). Candidates without TCRWP experience will not be considered for this position. In addition, candidates must have superior teaching skills; modeling instruction to colleagues is an essential part of the job. Lastly, ideal candidates will be avid readers and very strong writers. A desire to teach in an Episcopal school is important, although we embrace community members of all backgrounds and faiths.


Overview
The central mission of the Literacy Specialist is to ensure that Trinity’s Lower School delivers superior literacy instruction to students in K-4th grade. The Literacy Specialist should maintain a familiarity with current research-based educational initiatives and best practices in the areas of reading, writing, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar and he/she should work to preserve the fidelity of the literacy curricula (intended and delivered) for the lower school (K – 4th grade). He/she is responsible, alongside the Head of Lower School, for ensuring that the delivery of literacy instruction by lead teachers is of high quality and he/she should work alongside the Director of Student Progress to ensure students are progressing in literacy benchmarks and skills.
